Mind Racing

Katie assures me that I'm not alone in this, but I have had a bitch of a time sleeping recently. Whenever I go out or even just hang out with friends, I don't seem to have a hard time falling asleep because my mind seems to be at rest. Any night when I'm studying or doing work (and no, it's not always due to gallons of Diet Mtn. Dew) I try to go to bed and lie there for hours with my mind racing thinking of everything I need to do. Maybe it's because I've had more free time this semester whcih means less productivity or maybe it's because my thesis is still looming and scares me. Who knows. But either I need a bottle of Ambien to knock me out when I need it most or maybe i just need to hang out with people more.. Hmm. At least I think my Physics exam went decently. WHo thought I'd have this much work during my last semester!

Mixing it Up

As Jenna has put it for herself, I have succumbed to bouts of Senioritis throughout the semester. Oddly, I do (and have actually done) a fair amount of homework for my classes, especially my damn physics class. But without being president this semester and without my internship, I have a LOT of free time this semester which has not been managed so well. The couch and tv have been calling my name most loudly. Also, my thesis writing isn't progressing as swiftly as I need it to be. I'm happy with what I've done so far, but I need to pump out a few more awesome sections in a short amount of time. Sadly, writing has always been my favorite part of classes, but I have so much emotionally and professionally invested in this thesis (not to mention an advisor who doesn't know the meaning of positive reinforcement) so I have found it very difficult and emotionally taxing to sit down and write for this thing. Get over it Ali.
Looking to shake things up a bit more this semester. Last night we went to the Casbah for dinner, drinks and shisha to celebrate MPC being back in town which was a nice break from the monotonous week. Have some guest speakers marked off that I plan on attending and hopefully some other activities will come up. And maybe I should follow mixmaster's lead and start figuring out what I want to do wtih the rest of my life... maybe...

Eh Lame

Don't get me wrong, there have been a few great nights this semester. But that's been overshadowed by the multiple nights when Jenna and I are all ready to go out yet have few people to call that are reliable and most of our roomies have had other obligations this semester. Most of it has been understandable just not the same rocking spirit of the Barn. Considering that this is our last semester and i only have class 2 days a week, I certainly hope that the fun factor picks up soon. I'll be waiting with my party shoes on!

Another Soldier

Well the latest Madison trainee arrived who will also be our roommate. His name is Dragos and he is from Romania and we gave him the nickname Double Dragon. Although he is super sweet, he is no Brokeback replacement. And even though I'm now an AIESEC 'alumni', I've taken on a lot of the logistical reception stuff for him since that's always been my favorite part of AIESEC. Grocery shopping was quite amusing- this middle aged woman was moving at about the same pace as we were and found us very amusing and Dragos did not like the idea that our milk did not come from a cow ten minutes earlier. Took him and Thiker to watch the Badgers bball game at Brats last night which would have been the ultimate Madison experience except that we effing lost. Close game, but frustrating. All in all, a fun evening and it was great to see the trainees bonding as well. Time to plan a party to introduce the Super Bowl to our guests!
